Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position of School Social Worker has several important components. The components and defining activities include:

Consultation:

Consults with school personnel to identify children who should be referred for individual case study.
Provides behavioral consultation to teachers when needed and suggests appropriate treatment plans for individual students.
Provides parent support and consultation.
Works cooperatively and collaboratively with counselors, teachers, case managers, and administration.
Attends all required meetings.
Presents workshops and/or inservices on a variety of topics as the need arises.
Demonstrates flexibility to accommodate situations requiring immediate attention.
Serves as a resource person for teachers, parents, and community mental health programs.

Assessment and Intervention:

Performs a variety of assessments and rating scales, including: observation, interview, behavioral/personality, achievement and learning environment.
Completes reports in a timely manner.
Maintains expertise in appropriate formal Adaptive Behavior Scales.
Initiates and completes Adaptive Behavior Scales on identified students.
Functions as a positive and contributing member of the IEP, PST, and RtI teams.
Works with personnel and parents towards achieving a better understanding of students' growth and development and makes pertinent recommendations for remediation and intervention.
Initiates linkage and maintains follow up services to community agencies on behalf of identified students.
Collaborates with other team members to make recommendations, which will lead to meaningful educational experiences for the child.
Maintains and updates records of students in a timely manner.
Facilitates IEP Goal Writing Process.
Collaborates with IEP team on writing domain paperwork.
Maintains service logs
Completes Functional Behavioral Assessments
Develops Behavior Intervention Plans

Counseling:

Provides specific group counseling.
Provides individual counseling to students.
Provides student support both in and outside of the classroom.
Provides timely crisis intervention to students, school, or community.
Serves as a member of the Crisis Team as issues of concern arise.
Refers students and parents to appropriate services within the school and community.

Other

Provides other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or Division Chair.

Education and Experience

Illinois certification required. Excellent communication skills and positive rapport with high school students required. Experience in an alternative special education environment is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
