Description

This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Academic Success Center which includes the Tutoring and the Writing Center.  This position is on our Council Bluffs campus and provides a variety of services, resources, and programs. Provides high-quality, coordinated services and effective academic support to a diverse population of students.

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates IWCCâ??s core mission, vision, and values.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates a staff of peer tutors; provides day-to-day supervision, as well as ongoing leadership, support, and guidance.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates professional support staff members who provide academic support through one-on-one and group tutoring, including the Professional Writing Consultant, Professional Math Tutor, and Professional Biology Tutor; provides ongoing support and guidance to ensure high-quality services are delivered to students on a consistent basis. 
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Academic Success Center; creates and maintains an environment that welcomes and supports students of all learning abilities; develops a schedule and provides staffing each semester to optimize services and maximize usage.
  • Provides one-on-one academic coaching to students intended to enhance and improve studentsâ?? awareness and development of a wide array of non-cognitive skills, such as organization, time management, and note taking strategies.
  • Develops and widely distributes marketing materials by sending multiple emails, texts, giving presentations, and posting to social media.
  • Stays abreast of best practices and innovations regarding academic support services; utilizes online resources and databases, engages in discourse with colleagues, communicates ideas, and implements changes as appropriate.
  • Manages progress report communication, including communication to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Utilizes early alert software and progress report information to provide tailored and targeted intervention and promotion of appropriate Academic Success Center services to academically at-risk students; actively promotes the use of specific and appropriate services through phone, email, text, social media posts, and in-person meetings, particularly the provision of a specific action during a specific timeframe.
  • Tracks and analyzes usage of Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Academic Coaching and online tutoring services, including face-to-face sessions, as well as online sessions; conducts assessments to determine student satisfaction with services; utilizes data to make recommendations for improvement. 
  • Creates a variety of resources intended to enhance and improve studentsâ?? awareness and development of a wide array of non-cognitive skills, such as organization, time management, and note taking strategies.
  • Maintains the Academic Success Centerâ??s webpages in the collegeâ??s portal; ensures the content is accurate and beneficial for students.
  • Facilitates the online orientation course every fall and spring semester for new and returning students; manages enrollment process for students in the online orientation course.
  • Works with Librarian to manage the Library and Academic Success Center resources and services.
  • Can make decisions in matters of significance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorâ??s degree required. 
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and disabled backgrounds of community college students.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, to meet deadlines, to maintain and access paper and electronic files, to produce error-free final products, and to manage time and output.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate in both small and large group settings and with diverse groups of people including co-workers, students, business contacts and at various levels from front-line to administration.
  • Illustrates a history of successfully collaborating with coworkers on a regular basis to achieve common goals.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Enthusiastic and dedicated to the challenges of helping other people.
  • Professional in communications, appearance, relationships, and responsiveness.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision.
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver's license and good driving record.
